How about telling us WHAT error it's giving you? We're not going to guess.

And are you root when you try to do this, and what are you trying to accomplish?

Short answer: NO

AFAIK you can not do this. It is because of the way the hardware is wired, and is OS-independant. (Win, Mac, linux, you can not currently do this with software).

thanx for your replies !!

Thanks for the replies guys !!!
Sorry TBone I forgot to post the exact error it is usually
write error : Device or Resource busy
What am i trying to achieve ?
my application uses couple of modems and switches according to the n/w availability . Modem gets hung sometimes and then you have to unplug and plug it manually . I want to eliminate this manual intervention as my application later on would be automated and modem will not be accessible to the user !
my assumption was if i am able to restart the power on specific USB port
i would be able to achieve indirectly (unplugging/plugging)the modem.
oh and yes i am ROOT when i do this !!!!
