How to suspend on lid closing?
 

Greetings - this is a new Acer Aspire 5610z running Vector Linux
5.8 SOHO. I Would like to have it go into either suspend or
standby when I close the lid, or to at least find out how to
configure it so that I can make those choices, even to have it
shut down when closing the lid if I so desire.

I have the KDE Control Center "Power Control" set to go into
screensaver at 10 minutes, standby at 20, suspend at 30 and
power off at 60. The only thing that works is the screensaver,
the rest of it is ignored and it just stays in screensaver
mode indefinitely.

ACPI is installed, as well as lm-sensors, etc. Is there a
file that I can edit for the proper standby/suspend, etc
settings?

Help with this would be appreciated very much.

Using this:
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/acpi-support
should do the trick

See if you have something corresponding for your distro..

I think it creates a pipe that listens for acpi events. When one arrives, you can define an action.

As I always forgot that closing the lid will suspend, I removed the package :)

Well, I did a search for "acpi-support" in my distro's repositories
and it came up blank. I'll try fishing around the Vector forums a
bit more (I did post a query about this in there but awaiting an
answer).

Well, you would have to make the package yourself from the upstream real website.
If you are lazy, you can even download it from the same webpage:
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/ma...95.orig.tar.gz
Then, on the same page, you have the patch added by debian team.

You could just compile it yourself and try.

I got it going.. thank you for your replies. I ended up
just reinstalling the whole acpi package with lm-sensors.
That did it; I just have had a corrupted package in the
install disc.
