how to suspend in linux?? (FC3, Thinkpad A21P)

I'm using my Thinkpad A21p and just freshly installed FC3 over the weekend. I was just wondering, how do i got into suspend mode in linux?
shutdown doesn't seem to be working for me so...
i thought suspend is the next best thing.. unless someone knows how to get shut down to work, thanks.

Hi,

To enable suspend you ACPI or APM to work correctly... or that's ACPI (or APM) which manages shutdown. So if shutdown does not work correctly, I think suspend won't work
