I have a Hp pavillion dv 4401rs. It came with quick play button (volume, dvd, music). I recently install fedora 8. There is any way to make those button work properly? Please explain in detail because I am not a smart computer guy.
I believe that those buttons start software that runs outside of any OS. It may be Linux-based. Think of it like Knoppix or a Live CD, but it runs off of a separate partition. If you formatted the entire drive and all partitions then you would need to reinstall Quickplay. If the partition is still there (it would be a very small one) then it would be a little trickier. Perhaps grub could interfere with the software being loaded?
Do you know how to recognize the drives in /dev/ ? For instance /dev/sda or /dev/sda2
Do you remember if during install you were warned that you were formatting the entire drive and all data/partitions?
I hope it works out. Did you know that those buttons work when the laptop is off? I expected you to see the partition, but maybe not. I wonder if Fedora might not have seen the partition and overwritten it?
Good luck,
Steve
PS you would not normally have to install software first, only if it was accidentally erased.
Once again I appreciate you help. Those button do not work if my machine is off. They work perfect in window. I have both operating system on my laptop. The only button that work it's the one for turn on and off the wireless card.
