I've overwritten my out-dated OS X Panther on my iBook G3 PPC (RAM: 128mb Processor: 600MHz) with the Arch Linux Install CD, then that stopped working, so now I'm trying XuBuntu 8.10.

While I was installing Xubuntu, it automatically stopped detecting the CD-ROM, in which the Xubuntu install-CD is spinning. Please tell me how any of you would solve this problem?

After choosing Language, Country and Keyboard-Layout, the Installer tries to detect the CD-ROM, but you get following massage:

"No common CD-ROM drive was detected
You may need to load additional CD-ROM drivers from a floppy... Otherwise you willl be give the option to manually select CD-ROM modules. Load drivers from Floppy? - Yes - No"
I immediately answered 'No' to the previous question.

Should I use the latest-version of Debian or Yellow Dog Linux, instead of Xubuntu because it's still not detecting the CD-ROM even though the Xubuntu 8.10 Install-disk is in the CD-ROM drive?

YDL has always been known as a good Mac-world distro, you should probably pursue it. As for the bizarre occurrence of an active install suddenly losing its mind, I'd write a bug.

Doesn't look like it's a Mac exclusive issue. Trying to install xubuntu on an older pc laptop 233MHz 80M RAM (told you it was older), and it's giving me the exact same problem, can't find drivers for the CD ROM - and it's already installing from it!! What the hey? Maybe I'll try kubuntu unless someone can post a suggestion. (no need to suggest I should toss my old laptop - that option is why I'm trying to install xubuntu. If this don't work then I'll have to send it to it's final resting place ;-(
