what kind of computer configuration need to install linux?

Hi, Welcome to LQ,
Linux can be installed on just about anything. It is the choice of distribution that matters. Linux comes in many many many flavours: https://distrowatch.com/. It all depends on your needs and the capabilities of your machine. If your machine is recent, the modern distros will do the job nicely. If you have an older machine, then you might want to look at something more lightweight or a little older distributions. There is also the option to dual boot with Windows. In that case, if you just bought something with Windows 10, it is easy to shrink the Windows partition and make other partitions for Linux. There are certain variations in the install if you have two drives or SSD/HDD combinations. But again, it can certainly be done. What kind of machine do you have? |

In general, a computer that can boot from a device other than the one it shipped with. Most allow booting from USB, network, and other options. Many linux installations happen from booting the installer on a usb storage device. But there are many methods that could be used. Which tends to be easier when you already have a running linux and multiple devices.

If you are using Windows 7, then your computer will be able to run any Linux distro. The link in post #3 is a good place to start. You can run Linux (a bit slowly) off a DVD or USB stick to try it out before you install. Mint is a good choice for a beginner, so you might like to look at their manual:

Hello and welcome to LQ.
Might be better to tell us the hardware that you have and then ask what linux could be installed on it. Linux has been ported to quite a number of processors and in turn many chipsets. |
HI:& Welcome to LQ.
For older machines you can try Puppy Linux and Anti-x. http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%...%20Started.htm http://antix.mepis.org/index.php?title=Main_Page Posting your computer spec's will help us to help you on choosing which distribution to run. |
