How to control temperature on my laptop w/ Slackware
 

Hi,
I want to know if it is possible to control the temperature of my laptop.
In Gkrellm the temp is between 40-50 . I want to set it between 30-40.
Is it possible ?
My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra S1 and i'm using Slack-current

The best way would be to keep it in a cool room and on a flat surface where none of the fans are covered.

Some systems do allow you to turn on fans manually but it would depend on the model.

You could also control the CPU frequency manually by setting cpufreq to userspace. Not sure about slack, but that works in just about every other distro. If you run it at the lowest frequency all the time, it should run pretty cool. Though the 30-40 range might be wishful thinking depending on your laptop. That's the aim for a good desktop system running nice and cool, but it seems like laptops always run a bit hotter than that.

Btw, it requires a 2.6 kernel.
