how to access webcam and fingerprint scanner in acer tm 4720 in fedora 9

hi,

i'm having an acer travelmate 4720 laptop, which has an integrated webcam and a fingerprint scanner. i have installed fedora 9. my problem is that i don't know how to access these two pieces of hardware.

i've done 'dmesg' and i found this for webcam:

are these 2 devices connected on a usb bus ? any advice on how i can access these devices in fedora 9 ? thanks in advance.

Try installing the program, cheese for the webcam and you should be able to use it. Sorry but I don't know anything about the fingerprint scanner.

thanks for your suggestion. i'll try installing cheese. but, currently i'm trying to get my webcam running using uvcvideo. i googled my problem and found some info about uvcvideo. i'm not sure whether i'll succeed, but if i don't then, i'll give cheese a try. thanks anyway.

Ok let us know if it works. I have an AAO, not sure if they use the same webcam, and install Cheese using Debian and it worked without further input from me. I should have mention this earlier.

well i couldn't get chhese running on my lappy. it initially said that 'intltool' was old and i needed a newer version. i got that thing fixed, but, then it said that some gstreamer files were missing also.

honestly speaking, i've just run out of patience now. actually, i also tried some other tools like 'webkam' and 'wxcam', but had similar problems. any easy way out of this ? please advise and thanks for your suggestions.
