How is the netbook remix fundamentally different from the regular distro?

I am just curious, because I will have a netbook soon. Taking Ubuntu netbook remix from example, the direct feeling is the desktop interface becomes different from regular Ubuntu. But is there any more fundamental optimization happening? I really don't quite care too much about how cool it looks. If I install netbook remix on a netbook, will it be much faster than the one installed with Xubuntu? Thank you.

I run a toshiba netbook, with ubuntu remix, 512mb ran, 1.6ghz, 80gb hdd. Ubuntu remix runs absolutely fine on it. Much faster than windows, boots in 90 seconds, installation and first setup is quick.

I can't tell you if there's anything added or missing, on account of this is my first foray into Linux.

Be careful though, because I'm having a nightmare geting everything on mine working!

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR that page explains what the Netbook Remix does for you..

basically makes it easier to deal with the smaller screen and lower resolutions on the netbooks by altering the interface.

Personally I use the LXDE desktop on my netbook. It uses less resources than XFCE4
