how do you see what devices are linked to what
I was wondering how you go about checking what devices are linked to what. Right now I have a HP Pavilion xt375 and gnome runs fine on the laptop but I like to use another a mouse and another mointer when Im at home. I dont have any problems with my mointer, but my USB mouse doesn't want to work. Ive looked up a lot things and nothing so far has worked.... Ive tried /dev/usb/mouse0 and it doesnt work. I just need to know how to check what is connected to what device. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have the needed modules loaded you should access the mouse as /dev/input/mice. Unless compiled into the kernel you will need the modules hid, mousedev, and the module for your USB host controller, which should probably be uhci (or usb-uhci) or usb-ohci. If you have a USB 2.0 controller you should use the ehci-hcd controller.

You can try to see if the mouse works by issuing cat /dev/input/mice and moving the mouse around. If it works you'll see trash characters on the screen. Press Ctrl+C to stop oogling the mouse nonsense. :)
