Welcome to LQ. As root, open a console session, then use the "cd" command to get into the /etc/X11 directory, like so:
From there, you can open the xorg.conf file using whatever text editor you like. To illustrate, I like "pico"
Scroll down to the Monitor section, where you will see which resolutions have been specified, and you can add as many new ones as you like. There are plenty of examples in other threads on this same topic already, and you can use LQ's Search function to locate them. Good luck with it
