Probably doesnt matter what the sound card is, its probably Redhat's lack of ACPI screwing it up, unless this is an old laptop...

Possibly, the R series is rather new, but I didn't think IBM had switched to all acpi machines, I think they still had apm support in there. Here's a relative link:

http://www.redhat.com/archives/sound.../msg00057.html

The module is the trident.o module:

/sbin/modprobe trident

If BIOS has options about plug and play os, you might want to turn that off, also if it is using acpi, sometimes you can set the bios to NOT be in control of certain devices. The next RH release should have acpi compiled in with all of the the relevant add-ons, SuSe has it built in currently, and with Mandrake its available as RPM patch groups.

Cheers,

According to many websites accessible by google, Thinkpad R30-32 have some acpi onboard, which relatively refuses to work with current acpi patches and kernel support.. So, maybe your screwed either way? Or maybe peoples attempts at using acpi were just poor.
