Question Help redhat 7.3 on IBM t40

Hi guys,

I bought a brand new IBM t40 and tried times to install redhat 7.2 7.3 8.0 on it, but failed?

for 7.2 7.3, I can install but Xwindows cannot work!!
I thought the problem is because of the graphic card. ATI Mobility Radeon 9000.

for redhat 8.0, after booting from the CD, message " cannot find harddisk" showed

any solution to this?

thanks and regards!

(the reason for install 7.3 or 8.0 is that some EDA tools only support 7.3 or 8.0, no higher version)

http://gatos.sf.net/

in the above site, you may find ATI linux driver.

I have installed redhat7.3 and slackeare9.1 in my IBM T40-72U.

because the version of XFree is 4.2.0,I have to install linux driver or update XFree86 to
4.3.0 in order to support my graphics card.(ATI radeon 7500 mobility)

PS: Are you IC designers?

Redhat7.3 can not enable DMA on (kernel 2.4.18-3) , so when you copy files,it is very slow.

however,slackware9.1 can enable DMA on (kernel 2.4.20)

slackware9.1 can surport many eda tools that work in redhat7.3 sucessfully!

did you try magm@, this is one of my concern, because I tried knoppix before, but fail because the compatible lib problem with Red hat 7.3

I will try slackware out on my laptop.
