Help Please with Connection

Hi,

I have had my acer aspire one AOA150 for a few years, never had any problems logging into my wifi, but last night it started coming up with INTERNAL ERROR - FAILED TO INITIALIZE HAL

I dont know what this means, but I do know that it is not letting me connect to anything, my operating system is Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9.E

Please can someone help me with this, as I have a lot of my work stored on it xxxx

Maybe nobody told you but if data is important you are supposed to make external backups regularly.

HAL stands for "Hardware Abstraction Layer" and apparently this seems to happen using Acer live update: LQ and the 'net are rife with posts about such problems. While I don't own a Netbook or have any experience with Linpus there are posts that suggest what to do like http://thedesignspace.net/MT2archives/000527.html and http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael...Acer%20Repair/.

* What I'd do is burn a Live CD like KNOPPIX (I don't know if you can actually boot the CD that is supposed to come with your Netbook), get some external USB disk or stick, set the BIOS to boot from CD and then first copy your valuable documents to USB disk or stick. That way at least you have your backup.

Thanks unSpawn, I do know about back up but as usual in a busy lifestyle, I think oh I will do that later :(

I will try the links that you sent me and let you know how I get on with them.

Hi again unSpawn, just to let you know that the second link you sent me worked a treat, thank you so much for your help and I am now going to back up my work before I do anything else.

Many Thanks
