The IP should be something like this: 192.168.xx.xx (where xx is something between 1 and 254).
The Subnet Mask should be: 255.255.0.0
Does your configuration tool have options for IP's gateways etc. or maybe automatic IP's with DHCP?
(Most access point run a DHCP server which allows the automatic way, otherwise you'll need static IP's)
That's the way for testing a device in Linux (encryption must be disabled on the AP); afterwards you should use wpa encryption (perhaps with wpa_supplicant...).
