Help getting compiz to run on a Lenovo thinkpad t400 (debian lenny)

I know it's possible, but I can't get compiz working on my laptop, along with a few other weird graphical issues. I have run compiz on other computers before, but this one seems to have a problem with the driver. Just about everything is Intel and the grahpics card is an integrated GMA. When I try to issue "compiz --replace", I get "Fatal: Compiz can't be ran using VESA or VGA divers." I've looked all over the place and can't find another driver. I even read somewhere that it doesn't exist (thought the post might be outdated). Has anyone had any luck installing compiz on a thinkpad, or able to locate intel GMA drivers?

I am quite comfortable with the terminal, and any help would be much appreciated.

And are you absolutely positive that your graphics card can do compositing?

Try the i810, i910, i945, etc., run of drivers until you find one that works. (http://intellinuxgraphics.org/user.html)
