Thumbs down Help ACER Aspire 9810 Laptop sound only works thru shared spdif/headphone jack

Hi all, I have tried multiple Linux distro's and the end result is the same no sound unless I use a headphone jack which is also a SPDIF jack, this behavior happens on Mandriva, SLed, Ubuntu, Kunbuntu, no matter what I do I still get no sound thru the buildin 2.1 powerspeakers.

can someone please help me?

I think that basically I need to way to tell the soundcard which is a Intel-hda Realtek ALC883 card to output to the speak instead the SPDIF jack, btw this is a high definition audio card with multiple outputs analog and digital, i can't find this info anywhere in the net and is driving me nuts.

Right now I just installed Mandriva Spring 2007 release and still same issue.

I also tried the newest alsa drivers and no luck, any ideas?

I saw your post on alsa-users mailing list. Normally, I troll the zero reply section here for audio issues, but since you replied to your first post, it fell off my radar.

I looked at the source tree, and your system is listed in the alc883_cfg_table, so it should work fine. My suggestion is for you to download and install alsa-driver-1.0.15rc1.tar.bz2 as soon as it hits the website (http://alsa-project.org), as there is a small window to fix any issues prior to 1.0.15 final.
