Cool Having problems installing Slackware Linux on a HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop

I am having problems with the instalation of the version 12 of Slackware on my Linux Pavilion dv8000 laptop with a duo centrino processor.

I have been able to install the version 11 of slackware on my computer, but this version does not reconize the ethernet card, so I have not navigation on internet.

So, I switched to the version 12, that it is supposed to detect most of the devices on laptops.

The installation runs aparently well, but after I finished it, and I restar my computer, my computer freezes.

It seems that it is reading the kernel correctly, but it stops on
a line that says:

cs: IO portprobe 0x800_0x80f

I have no idea what this means and what to do to solve the problem.

So, I am wondering if somebody knows what it may be happening?
I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestion on this isues.

Thanks,

Fco. Portillo

computer freezes

I also saw this happen on a Toshiba M115-S3154.

When the boot process would sometimes halt at the point you mentioned, I would press the enter key, and the boot process would continue. Don't know what was going on.

After building a custom kernel, the problem went away.
