GUI is freezing on startup

I installed "Fedore core 4" a week ago, an until now things has worked as expected... But now I suddenly can't start the GUI. I see the blue background and the fedora logo rectangel in the middel of the screen... but then nothing happens.

I looked in the Xorg.0.log and found this:

I830DRIScreenInit failed because of a version mismatch
libdri version is 4.1.0 bug version 5.0.x is needed.

I guess they have a typo in the error (bug = but). Is this error the reason that the GUI hangs?

How do I fix this?... I guess this is about a driver.. but which driver?.. and how do I update it?

My specifications:
-----------------------
Laptop: Dell Latitude D610
Chipset: Mobile Intel(R) 82915GM/GMS/910GML Express Chipset family
OS: Fedora Core 4
Kernel: 2.6.13.2

Anything else you need to know?

I would really appreciate some guidelines on this issue, since I dont want to screw things up even more

I found this on a Google search:

Quote:
if you really want to use the i810 driver, you can download a newer snapshot of the driver from http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/. I used the "i915-20050718-linux.i386" which at least got X working with the i810 driver. You'll also need the "common-20050718-linux.i386" to get newer versions of Xorg's libdrm.a and GL modules. (If you install the driver but don't install the "common" package, you'll get an error in your Xorg.0.log file like "libdri version is 4.1.0 but version 5.0.x is needed").
I installed the i915-20050718-linux.i386 driver a few days ago, but didn't install the common modules as described above... so I just did that... The GUI still hangs, but I have no errors in the Xorg.0.log. I still have warnings though:

Code:
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory)
...
(WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found
...
(II) I810(0): initializing int10
(WW) Bad V_BIOS checksum
...
(WW) I810(0): config file hsync range 60-66.3158kHz not within DDC hsync ranges
...
(WW) I810(0): Extended BIOS function 0x5f05 failed
...
(WW) I810(0): Successfully set original devices
(WW) I810(0): Setting the original video mode instead of restoring the saved state
(WW) I810(0): Extended BIOS function 0x5f05 failed
...
(WW) I810(0): Successfully set original devices (2)
Should any of the above warnings cause X to hang?
