gnome update prevents logging in
I was not able to get gnotime to work, so I used up2date to get the latest gnome rpms installed. After a while, I noticed that the redhat -network-configuration tool (neat) fails on startup. And now, when looging it, the username/password screens are not decorated correctly and after entring a valid username/password (as a user or as root) there are several warnings about nautilus and gnome, and the screen hangs without finishing the login.
1. How can I power on and get to a non-x screen to do a text login?
2. If I accomplish that, then what is the best way to revert to a working version of gnome and other packages?
3. If I reinstall a version of RH9, will I lose the user areas?
4. I have a wireless device driver module in the kernel. How can I restore the system without losing this?
Thanks.
