NeddySeagoon,

Great! I did as you said, and that's working now (system boots correctly). Now, I just have to figure out the Synaptics touchpad. It was working before. Probably has something to do with switching to the newer version of X (with HAL). I know I saw something about that in the Gentoo docs, so I'll work on that.
