Gateway Solo 5300
 

I have just received a Gateway Solo 5300 Laptop.

Being new to linux, what would be the best distro to install on this?

I have a list of hardware specs for this laptop and I can always go into the windoze hardware specs.

But where would I find the drivers I need?
web searches?
try to make friends with Linux Wizards?

I have a Solo 5150 and have been through many distros. My final stop was at MEPIS. You are probably going to fight with the sound and NIC (if you have onboard) WiFi support is good but not perfect.

Try MEPIS first, its a LIVE Distro that can be installed if it works for you. Live Distros are Operating systems that run from the CD without installing anything to the hard drive.
