Hey all,

This is my first day with Linux, I've installed Fedora 11, and I completed screwed up the installation and deleted Windows in the process. But that's besides the point, now I have Fedora 11, and I'm stuck with it.

Getting to the point: I have a Gateway NV44, and I can't connect to the wireless network. Yes, I'm a complete linux noob, so I think this may belong in the newbie forum, but it's also a laptop related question so I wasn't sure.

If anyone could PLEASE answer me, because I'm a website developper so I kind of really need the internet lol

OK find your wireless card with one of
lsusb - checks usb bus
lspci - checks pci bus
lspcmcia - checks card bus.
uname -r tells you the kernel version

Then go to http://www.linuxwireless.org and hunt for instructions.

Well I tried that, and the website isn't helping much. It just gives me a command to put in "lspci -vnn | grep 14e4" and then checka table to see if what I have is listed as either compatible or not. But it's not in the table.

When I use lsusb:

My kernel version is 2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586

No wireless device there. Perhaps 'network switching' is enabled in the bios.
That means if the nic works (I see a broadcom network card) the wireless is off, and vice versa. Sort that out and try again. Boot with no network connected to that nic

thanks, but how do I do that?

This should probably be in the newbie section considering that I'm quite the newbie haha

The RaLink RT2860 is the wireless adapter.
Try adding the respository (http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration) to yum, then install kmod-rt2860.

Remember that next time you post. You fix network switching by rebooting, entering the bios and looking for it. There's usually a menu for peripherals in the bios. I'd start there.
