Ok folks, Got a Gateway 7510GX AMD64 with Kubuntu 8.10 and I got no sound.
Sound card is ATI IXP SB400. I've gone into KMIX and ensured nothing is muted. Tried several "Master channels" with no effect. I've tried sound everyway I can think of: via Amarok, CD, Pandora, movies, etc.
Got nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
LSPCI output is:
00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB Host Controller
00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB Host Controller
00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB2 Host Controller
00:14.0 SMBus: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 SMBus Controller (rev 11)
00:14.1 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 IDE Controller
00:14.3 ISA bridge: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 PCI-ISA Bridge
00:14.4 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 PCI-PCI Bridge
00:14.5 Multimedia audio controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)
00:14.6 Modem: ATI Technologies Inc SB400 AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02)
followed the steps downloaded and unzipped alsa drivers, utils, plugins, lib, etc... I modified the /etc/module file as it instructed.
Initially, my changes seemed to have no effect, once I rebooted I seem to be good now. Amarok, headphones, Pandora radio through Firefox, and through movies. So I believe I actually fixed my own problem! Go figure!
