Hi everyone,

I am very new to Linux, it is my first time using Linux. I just installed Fedora 5 on my Fujitsu laptop, I have a SMC router and want to use wireless connection. I really dont' know where to setup? Also, the resolution that I have right now is only 600x800, I guess Linux haven't pick up the video card yet. Can someone pls help me? I will very appreciated....

You can find out both with command

lspci

Also try out

lshw and lsusb

You might have install them first, but after running all these you know a lot more about your computer.

If the text runs of the screen, use pipes and less, like this:

lspci|less

lspic -v will give you everything. You can try this but not sure if it works, cat /dev/pci > ~/hrdware.txt . That should create a text file with the listing of all your hardware. Then just post the output here.

X.org

You are bting really vague here. Helping is hard when the question is so vague.

What you do need to do is:
1. Identify the model of video chip on the laptop. fujitsu's web site is helpful for this...
2. Find out the native/maximum resolution for your the laptop's lcd.
2. Go here: http://wiki.x.org/wiki/VideoDrivers?...=%28drivers%29 and find the driver. The drivers and options are pretty well documented.
3. Enter driver and maybe some needed options in /etc/X11R*/xorg.conf. Pay attention to how the file is set up and stick to that format. There is a section where the default resolution is set. Increase it if you can.

If you know the lcd can handle higher resolution than 800x600 pressing ctrl-alt-plus (as in the key with the plus sign) should increase the resolution.

You can also use the book that came with you laptop and that should tell you the graphics driver and wireless card in your laptop, under the technical specifications chapter of your owners manual.

Hi everyone, thank you for your advice....I have found out the driver for my NIC and video, they are "Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG Network Connection", "Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller".

But when i go to network configuration, under hardware, it shows my wireless and Broadcom ethernet card, status is ok.......So, I guess Linux has already detected my NIC. How am I able to use wireless to connect to internet, I have encryption key setup in my router........

Thanks
