I bought Acer aspire 725 one with linpus linux.
Its not booting the error shown is :-

I am new to linux plz help me at earliest so as i can retutn the product if defective

That's not an error. That is the root account bash shell command line prompt. It's waiting for you to input a command such as startx to start the X graphic server, uname -a to display current distro and some system info, ls -a to show a file/directory list, etc.

Here it says you may have text based install

If you want a desktop you may have to install it.

Please try the command startx (as suggested earlier). It might give you a 'command not found' error in which case you have a very basic linpus (basically a placeholder OS).

I notice from your screenshot that it states 'liveCD'; are you running from CD or memory stick?

From experience, Linpus is not very quick in providing security patches. When a major security hole was found in the kernel a couple of years ago, I waited two weeks and nothing was available for update (while my other distros were patched in that time). I switched to another distro. My system is an old Aspire One ZG5 with 8GB ssd and 512MB memory.

I suggest that you install another distro; a little research on the web shows however that some distros don't fully support your system out-of-the-box. Other users here that have the same model can possiblyadvise; I suggest that you try a few in live mode (memory stick or CD/DVD) and check if everything works and next install what works.

To try starting the graphical user interface, where you use your mouse to do point and click activities. To start this you need to type...If this doesn't work we need to know more about you situation.

1. Have you installed your system yet, or are you running out of a cd or usb.

2. Do you have an internet connection to this computer?
