Question Fedora2 - No Sound from CD Player in Toshiba A40

Hello Guys,

I installed Redhat 9 in my new Toshiba A40-892 and 2 days later I upgraded it to Fedora 2. Everything seemed fine, I can see --and hear!-- DVD's using MPlayer, but I cannot make the cd work. The cd loads ok and the window of the cd player appears and in fact plays it, since it displays the song and the song's remaining time. But I cannot hear a single note!

The thing is I didn't test the cd player in the short live of RH9 in my computer, I do not know if I am dragging this problem or something funny happend in the upgrade.

I have checked all the volume controls and all are at the top and aren't muted.

Thanks for your help!

Manuel Jose

Hi

As your sound card works, there is only 1 thing that I can think if.
Is there an audio cable between the CD-ROM and your sound card?

Hello SkunkBurner,

I guess so, but it should be ok because the cd plays fine in windoze.

I think it might be worth checking because the cd player in windows might be accessing the cd-rom as digital data rather than playing it as a cd. I haven't got a windows box handy so I can't check.
