Fedora core 2 on Laptop


Hi guys and gals

got me a new laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 7850) which does not have a Floppy drive.

I am trying to install fedora core 2 on it and when eva i try to boot it hang's as it tries to setup the floppy drive, it will install ok, its when i try to boot it for the first time. How can i disable this if i cannot boot the thing?? can i use a recue mode and change n e thing? if this is poss try to explain simply as i'm new to linux (i.e i havent even managed to run it yet)

You might consider purchasing an external USB floppy. I'll check to see if you can boot to a lower run level to make the changes. I'll re-post this afternoon if no-one else comes up with it first.

thanks. i was hoping i could just boot up using the recue ooption on from cd1 and change something to stop it probing for the drive :S

Sounds more like a problem with the laptop than with fedora 2. I've run fedora 1 & 2 on laptops with no floppy drives without a problem.

That's a good point ebit. Gdogg2K, have you attempted to install this distro on another machine?

hi, i've installed on my desktop (with floppy) and runs great, mandrake and suse run ok on laptop

just wanted to check if i could stop it modprobe'ing for floppy
