hello everyone,
i have got a DELL Inspirion 1501 Laptop which has AMD Athlonx2 64 with 80 GB SATA & 1.5 GB RAM.
I have recently installed Fedora Core 11 in my laptop. The installation was smooth.
Now the problem is that when i am using Firefox with multiple tabs or while listen to songs increasing the volume of the speakers the system stops responding. all the programs comes to a halt but i can only move the cursor of the mouse. i have to forcefully switch off my laptop & start it again.
i have tried disabling selinux but the problem remains.
the problem is there with both 32bit & 64bit Fedora 11 as i have tested both.
kindly help me out of this situation.
I'm afraid that sounds like failing HW to me.
Some people have hangs after resume from suspend, they solve this with the proprietary gfx driver and upgrading the bios.
The place to hunt for clues is the syslog - you'll need to go into /var/log to look at the previous session, since you have to power-cycle to in-freeze. Another approach is to run the top utility someplace where it will be visible after a freeze, then you'll got to see if something suddenly hogs resources.
Distribution: Fedora 7, 11, CentOS 5.4, Linux mint 7, Damn small, Ubuntu 9.04, (not on all one machine)

Fedora core 11 is a bad apple to me. It always gives me trouble. Do what I did and downgrade to fedora 10. It's much better and has a better theme too. Fedora 9 is also nice. They won't offer it soon, but you can download it on the get linux page of my site. Fedora 10 is easily gettable too. Just click on the distro or version of your choice, and it will give you the ISo file right away. here: http://linuxmadegeeky.weebly.com/get-linux.html
I wish they let me do the <a href= html link here. It looks so much neater.
