Did you change anything recently?
What happens when you login and then run the command startx?

Post the make/model of your laptop.

You can try reconfiguring X...

Code:
root@fedora# system-config-display
Also you could post some X logs under /var/log/Xorg.log

owenm it sounds like you did an update and installed a new kernel and did not install the graphics driver for your card

What is your 3d card ( ati,nvidia) ?
or is it a built in chipset on the mobo ?
What driver did you install ?
Was it from the manufactures web site ( ATI catalyst -ati-driver-installer-???.run or nvidia.run )
or was it a kmod.rpm ?

what was the last updates , they are listed in " /var/log/yum.log"
Code:

tail -50 /var/log/yum.log
