Fedora 7 - Ati radeon xpress 1100 not working with beryl

Hi, i recently installed fedora 7, and when i opened the beryl manager a blank screen came up, so i started googling to solve the problem, well i read something about starting berylmanager without forcing the window manager and there was other command involve, anyhoo the second one made beryl work but it was freaking slow. I want to solve this problem, i don't know if its related to the drivers or what. I downloaded and installed the fglrx drivers and did the aticonfig thingy but all it did was mess with x, i couldn't start it so then i had to remove the packages to restart x.

I am tired, and now i have a headache i don't know what else to do. If someone could help me i would really appreciate it.

thanks, btw my version of beryl was 2.1

It probably also depends on what graphics card you have

a good place to start would be
http://www.phoronix.com/forums/

i found a lot of help there myself

I haven't tried the ATI official drivers yet, but beryl worked out of the box for me with the ATI Radeon R250 (Mobility FireGL 9000)

I am running 7.9/Rawhide however

I'll give the fglrx drivers today and let you know how I fare

Best wishes
Tony

that is my xorg file aafter installing the drivers and doing the aticonfig thing, it seems that it is not configuring the device. after supposedly configuring the drivers x just won't start. The log file from the ati installer said something about a precompiled package and mismatched kernel numbers, hold on let me find it

Code:
[root@localhost ati]# cat fgl*log
[Message] Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module.
[Message] Kernel Module : Precompiled kernel module version mismatched.
[Error] Kernel Module : No kernel module build environment - please consult readme.
how can i fix this ? i don't get it i haven't done anything to the kernel i just reinstalled fedora 7 so nothing has been modified
