1 why use ata over sata?
2 if you used the graphical install mode for fedora>>manual part>>all the partitions wrote to the drive?
3 its sounds like the install is looking elsewhere to do the install.
4 i have set up fedora 11 a few times with no real issues using both LVM, seperate parts, and free space and everything worked great. i wonder if you may have caused something when you changed to ata?
5 could you post the info on what you did to change from sata to ata?
