Exclamation FC7 Notebook Installation Failure...

Hi,

Downloaded the Fedora Core 7 i386 DVD version.

Wrote it to DVD and succesfully installed it onto a desktop machine.

Yet, trying to install to a Fujitsu Siemens V2010 notebook, states corrupted packages on installation.

One specific error is:-
"The file xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.6.3-2.fc7.i386.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file or perhaps a corrupt package. Please verify your mirror contains all required packages, and try using a different one.

If you reboot, your system will be left in an inconsistent state that will likely require reinstallation."

Doing a media check of the DVD on the Fujitsu V2010 states "FAILED"....

Doing a media check of the same DVD on the desktop machine states "SUCCESS" ...

I flashed the Fujitsu V2010 with the latest BIOS I could obtain. No improvement...

Went One further and used Windows 2000 Server to create a RIS (Remote Installation Service) image of FC7. (The Media is obtained via FTP from the same RIS server)

Although both desktop and notebook does the PXEBoot perfectly, presenting the FC7 installation menus etc, BOTH machines "crash" with abovementioned error DURING file (media) installation.

Been battling more than a week with this and is desperately looking for any answers to get FC7 installed onto the Notebook...

Can anyone please assist?

Thanks

P.S.

Linus rulz

The Notebook is a:-

Fujitsu Siemens V2010
40GB Hard Disk
512MB Memory
CD-RW/DVD combo drive

The Desktop Machine is a:-

Gigabyte GA-8L553 motherboard
256MB SDRAM
Intel 1.7Ghz processor
Seagate 20GB hard disk
Samsung DVD-RW writemaster

I would tend to point the finger at two things.
1: Try burning the DVD at a lower speed, half/quarter of the rated burn speed of the burner using good quality media.
2: Get a CD/DVD cleaner and give the optical drive in the laptop a couple passes.
Sounds like the optical drive in the lappy can't get a good read on the DVD.

Any ideas why it is doing the same with the RIS installation?... This is running directly from the server.

Installing XP from CD with no problems...

RIS?
You mean you fired all the files in a share
and then you added them to /etc/exports
Made those entries visible with exportfs -a
and then you started a network install via NFS?

If you like to perform a network install then you should
get known with the Network install types.
I guess that what you mean with RIS.

Yip, I meant RIS aka M$ Remote Installation Services and FTP.

I am not using a Linux/Unix box via NFS or file export...

Yet I am experiencing the same issues with DVD based installation although the MD5sum checks out correctly
