FC4 on IBM T42

I'm having a few issues that I can't seem to resolve:

1)Power Management. How do I get this to sleep (standby attempts say "Suspend command /usr/bin/apm -s was unsuccessful)? And more importantly, when I unplug, does it automatically step down the processor to save power? I changed the cpufreq to "yes", in great hope, but i don't know if it is working.

2)What GUI program is out there to look for available wireless networks?

3)How do I use the s-video out to connect to a TV? In windows, i used the ibm presentation manager, but that's not available here.

4)Does IBM have linux versions of its windows tools?

Thanks!

I bought IBM laptop with preinstalled SuSE. IBM also recommends using SuSE. It has suspend support
