LinuxQuestions.org - Fan Control on Toshiba Sattelite A60-672

Hi, I have just finished following the Gentoo Guide to power management.

I have configured so far:

* Runlevels for battery and ac_power states.
* CPU Frequency Scaling
* DMPS in the Xorg config file.
* Suspend 2 Hibernation.

The problem is this:

I recently resumed my laptop from hibernation, and went away. When I came back, one of the OpenGL screensavers was running. Just then, the laptop shut down. I tried to switch it back on, but each time I did, it powered off. Suspecting an overheat problem I left it for a few mins and then powered the computer back up again. Sure enough, the fan went to full speed and stayed on until I next restarted.

What I want to know is:

Is it possible that when editing my Xorg config file, I overclocked the graphics card, or pushed it beyond its limit, thus causing it to overheat?

Also, on this laptop, is the fan controlled by the BIOS or do I need to install some program to control it from within Linux and thus prevent further overheats?

I have noticed that the fan is normally on, but at a very slow speed. I also didnt see any section on "Fan Control" for the documentation I looked at (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/power-management-guide.xml)

I really don't want this to happen again as it may be damaging the hardware, so if you know anything I can do, then I'd be very grateful. :)

BTW: The graphics card is an ATi Radeon 7000 IGP Mobility chip.
