facing problems in installation on my laptop

hi all,

i am using kernel 2.6.12 and my base distro is vl.
this distro is running fine on my desktop...
but when i am trying to install this distro on my laptop it is not getting booted in gui mode.
in tui mode it is working fine.
please note that my laptop is a low end and is having basic configurations only.

the error which i am getting is as under...

Recent X-Windows was respawned too short.
Please make sure that the X-Window is allright,
then try init 4 again after 1 minute.

Cancelling GUI mode login
Switching to runlevel : 2

Can somebody please suggest remedial measures...

thanx for your advice biophysics.....i will try and improve

anyway i have been able to solve the gui mode problem.
soln is......

there was trouble with videocard. As root edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Code:

mcedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Find Section "Device" in it. It should look something like this:

Code:

Section "Device"

Identifier "Card0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "Unknown Board"
EndSection

there, change driver to "vesa". Save settings and see if it works now:
Code:

startx
