External Display not working

Hi,
I have a Compaq Evo N400c. I installed Mandrake 10.1. There are two problems.

1. Only APM is available in kernel. How do I use ACPI and use those cool hibernate and software suspend features.

2. When I tried to connect it to an external monitor and hit Fn + F4. The display didnot get switched to the monitor. The laptop screen just flickered for a second and then nothing happened. I tried the all combos of Fn + (all function keys) but nothing happens.

Any suggestions on these issue.

Amjith.
