I plan to buy a Sony Vaio VGN-Z51XG. Unfortunately none of my notebook dealers allows me to plug in a live-usb-stick to verify that the hardware is detected properly.
Anyway, Sony has built in a 3G-module called "everywair". I couldn't find any informations on what chipset this module is based on Does anybody know what's that for a network adapter and if linux will support it?
Look, support technical answers. Buy from the guy who can answer your questions. I have found some over here in Ireland, and it saves loads of trouble. I can suggest, but you can probably beat the price.

Ah, you probably run to a garage when you need to change lamp in your car, don't you?
No way. I worked for 20 years in the electronics hardware business - TVs, Research, Engineering, Industrial Electronics & Servicing, Troubleshooting, along with some contract work. But that still doesn't make me an expert on the compatibility of the next little piece of plastic and silicone that comes along. It's commercial common sense; If they say it will work, and it doesn't, there's no argument about you getting your money back.
