Error:unknown filesystem grub rescue>

i am a complete noob to linux. here is what i did.
i had windows 7 installed on my netbook. Then i installed ubuntu netbook edition. later on i wanted to try this android os for desktop. so i make a bootable pendrive the android os and try booting it from the pendrive.

in the menu i selected install it on the hard disk.
it asks me to select a partition.
i select the linux partition
then it prompts that it wont be saving any data, and it will revert back to the original after every restart as i saves all data on the ram.
so i revert my decision and go back all the way and choose to run it live.
i ran it and did not find it very useful.
so restart my pc with the pendrive ejected this time and i get the said error.
what do i do. i have some very important data on my windows partition which i CAN NOT lose.
please help thanks in advance.
p.s. i am planning to go ahead and install the android os on the linux partition on the hard drive.
is it the right move!

You may have written boot record to pendrive to test try booting with & without pendrive.
If boot record is on pendrive it may have done "os-prober" & "update-grub"
Also if it's done this and your new os is available boot into it and reinstall grub and you should be able to boot both os'es.

well i resolved it by running installing the ubuntu netbook edition. it automatically recovered the grub and works now as if nothing has happened....i guess the android os wrote over the grub and hence it was unable to load.
thanks eddy for taking the time and replying
sincere regards
