[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
i have installed the 845 patch, i have added the patch tool to the rc5 script and i have downloaded a "working" xfree86 config file. below is the exact message i receive when starting X. (keep in mind that X worked before the patch but only in 640x480 (i had to change the internet addresses in the log cause of the spam blocker on the newsgroups, since im a new poster. the technical data is unchanged)

i have found out the problem, dont install the intel drivers that are listed in the walkthrough, also the rpm version of the 845 wrapper installs the command /etc/sbin/855patch in your S86vidmem instead of /etc/sbin/845patch

reformatted, installed x as 640x480 generic, installed the rpm through gnome then copied my config file over the old one and bam, works like a charm, now to get the wireless and onboard lan working........

I saw another few similar problems that were unanswered, so instead of deleting my post, im just gonna post my solution

go to this site -->
http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/wlan/install.php
they offer a wrapper for your windows driver
it kind of confused me at first. you install the .rpm then they ask you to point your browser at 127.0.0.1 and you get a prompt for a windows driver. that's when you pop in your driver cd that dell sent you (or wherever you have a copy) and load the windows driver.
they offer a free trial of the product (30 days I think) then they ask for something like $30. definitely worth it!!!!
