Eee Netbook Display Issues with Slackware 13.37

Hey all, haven't posted in quite some time, but I'm hoping I can get this problem sorted out.

I recently purchased an Asus Eee netbook, model 1005PE. I'm currently running Slackware 13.37 32-bit on it, and it all works well except this persistent but ultimately harmless quirk. The display, about halfway through booting up and sometimes when starting X, turns itself off. I do not mean the screen becomes blank, I mean it turns completely off. I have to close the netbook's lid and re-open it, and the display will come right back as if coming out of sleeping. This happens almost every time during the boot process, and maybe 25% of the time when starting X.

I use KDE 4.5x, if that is at all relevant. The screen's blacking out does not adversely effect any processes, and everything comes back as normal. I have not had to hard shutdown my netbook because of this yet, but this is of course inconvenient nonetheless.

I don't recall ever seeing any error messages, but I will edit this post if I do. Suggestions or answers are much appreciated. :)
