Display Drivers for Dell 700m

hi all:

very new to linux (this is my second attempt at leaving Windows, and so far this is much better..I mean at least I got my wireless working this time.) anyway, i have a dell inspiron 700m and suse 9.2 pro. when i'm in windows i can get a max resolution of 1200x800, but in suse i am only able to make my resolution 800x600, which is incedibly annoying. i was wondering if anyone out there knows if i can use the drivers from windows (using ndiswrapper) or if there are drivers for linux...

thanks in advance.

UPDATE:

I have located and downloaded the drivers for the Intel 82852 GM/82855 GM. They can be found at Intel :: Support.

That file contains:
- XFree 86
- the required Linux kernels

I have been following Intel's Install Instructions found here.

But as of right now I am trying to figure out how to install XFree 86.

hey, i have errr.... had the same problem with the same laptop. to be quite honest with you i dont really know what i did. i fiddled with the settings set the monitor to dell laptop 1280X and then set the resolution to 1280x800 and it didnt work. about a week later i tried again and low and behold it worked. the only thing i can think of that i did differently was that i updated my BIOS sometime in between. so you might try that. hope it works for ya. here be the link

oh, my machine is dual booted winXP/suse 9.2 pro so that BIOS is excuted through windows. i dont know how to flash it in windows.

I just ordered my 700m so I have not tried this but I found some information here:
dell 700m install

My guess is you should not have to change your version of X-Window to get this to work. You might want to try the instructions above they seem loads easier than installing X.
