disk/cpu performance

I am posting this again.

Is there any way to improve the perforamnce of disk on linux laptops(except hdparm)?

Also when I run cat /proc/cpuinfo,

it shows that

modelname Intel Pentium processor 1600 MHz
cpu MHz 599.107

Do somebody know the reason behind it and how can this be corrected

are you sure it's reading 599.107??

mine says:
model name: Pentium III (coppermine)
cpu MHz: 846.330

this is a p3 850 chip........
yours should mean 1599.107........

Yes, I am sure. It seems it is in the power save mode and its not increasing the clocl speed.

What disto? Might help to know, since some distro's have powermanagement with full throtttling support, and they tell you to edit your /etc/sysconfig files to fix problems...
