disable touchpad entirely?

I apologize if this subject has already been covered, but I have crazy A.D.D. and have an extremely hard time browsing through the forums in search of a particular subject. heres the problem.
I'm running linux Mint 12 on my HP pavillion dm4 laptop. I've noticed that this OS doesn't interect with the hardware quite the same way as Windows. I.E. the f10 button doesnt work to pull up BIOS Config anymore, I have to plug in a wireless keyboard. that doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that I write a lot in Libre Office, and I'm always messing up my writing by accidentally tapping the touchpad with my hand. In Windows I can disable the touchpad by double tapping in the upper left corner and a little orange light even comes on to let me know its turned off. is there anyway, or any package to get that would allow me to disable my touch pad in mint 12? so far I see nothing. the option to "disable during typing" in advanced settings isn't enough. thanks for your time.
