Diminishing battery capacity on an Acer Travelmate 4102WLMi

I have a barely year old Acer Travelmate 4102WLMi running Slackware 10.1 with a 2.6.17.1 kernel. Suspecting some drop in my uptime specially while running in X (I use KDE as my WM) I installed acpitool and checked the output for the battery status.

Code:
  Kernel version : 2.6.17.1   -    ACPI version : 20060127
  -----------------------------------------------------------
   Battery #1     : present
   Remaining capacity : 2987 mAh, 100.0%
   Design capacity    : 4400 mAh
   Last full capacity : 2987 mAh, 67.89% of design capacity
   Capacity loss      : 32.11%
   Present rate       : 0 mA
   Charging state     : charged
   Battery type       : rechargeable, LION
   Model number       : ZL02
   Serial number      : 20619
   Battery #2     : slot empty

  <snip>
A 32% capacity loss which translates to an uptime of almost an hour being lost. Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour and is there anything that I can do to curtail this sort of battery loss ?

How old is the battery? Eventually recharable battery's maximum charge level decreases to zero. You probably need a new battery.
