I'm searching for a desktop replacement laptop where everything works fine in Linux. Specifically I'm looking for a reasonable CPU, 512mb or > of ram, 60GB or > hd, dedicated 3D graphics (enough to play most 3D games, eg. Civ 4), WLAN that works in Linux and at least 2 hrs battery life. So far I've found the Acer Aspire 1524WLMi (
http://www.whatlaptop.co.uk/cL5DAzNo-WckGQ.html) which seems to fit the bill almost perfectly. However it doesn't seem to be available anymore.
Its successors in the 5020 series (
http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4...crc=1565874032) seem to have what I want still but Linux support is a bit rockier
http://www.aspirelinux.prv.pl/.
So my questions are:
1) Does anyone have anymore info or experience with Linux on the 5020 series laptops, specifically with Mandriva 2006 or to do with getting the 3D graphics and wireless working? From that site it looks like he got everything working but I'd like to be more sure.
2) Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative similar laptops that might work better with Linux?
Any help or info is appreciated
