dell xps 17 and nvidia drivers removed

Hi there I have recently removed the nvidia drivers from my lappy - see here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...66#post4782466 - and I have I noticed something - it's not an issue as such. Do you know the launcher on the left-hand side with all the icons on it? Well before disabling nvidia all the icons were displayed on the panel, meaning that there was quite a bit of scrolling to do to get to the bottom of the list, whereas now the icons collapses (see attachment). Again, just an observation, I wonder why it does that!
thanks for your help with this, very much appreciated

Doesn't sound like a question per say, more like an observation.

I do not have an authoritative answer, but I'm pretty sure it is because the linux video driver supports the collapsing of the icons to make it easier to use. The proprietary NVIDIA driver doesn't support that. Sure would be nice if NVIDIA would get their thumbs out of their bu... er noses and let us have the specs needed to make a fantastic driver. I too have gone to the linux video driver. IT seems mature enough that it is ok for what I'm doing now.

well it's both, an observation and a question : -). SO it's just a question of supporting the collapsing of the icons then you think
