Dell netbooks frequently use broadcom cards. To confirm open a terminal and post the output of
Code:

Code:
07:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8176 (rev 01) You'll need the basic development tools at least for that. Should be able to install them as so (Meego 1.1 apparently uses zypper for command line package management, while 1.0 used yum.) Code:
sudo zypper install pattern:development-tools Download the source code from the above link, extract, build, and install Code:
tar -zxvf rtl8192ce_linux_2.6.0005.1116.2010.tar.gz Cross your fingers and reboot. |
thanks for ur fantastic support even the download link is not working rest all fine
i posted my experience in my blog http://www.meabi.com/meego-wirelesswifi-configuration/ along with an alternative download link from hotfile |
You're welcome. (Feel free to hit the "Did you find this post helpful" link above. :) )
I tested the download link and it works for me. Not sure what the trouble is you're having, but glad you found an alternative link. |
I followed the above instructions until I got to "make" at which point it says
Code:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.35.3-10.3-netbook/build: No such file or directory. Stop. |
In case this helps the future traveller, here is the answer to Thimoteus. There are a few issues I found: You could be using the new (MeeGo v1.2) directions, which don't tell you to download the kernel headers. You could also be using the wrong module code, which might let you get successfully through make/make install if you're crafty but your wireless likely still won't work.
I recommend ensuring you have the correct module code first, it's much easier to do than debug the kernel headers. Just run lspci and look for "Network Controller". Locate the exact model number (e.g. RTL8188CE) and head over to the Realtek site (linked above) for the exact codebase you need. Run through the steps shown previously to get to make / make install. If you've done the above and it's still not working, you could be missing the headers for your kernel. The directions for v1.2 MeeGo have replaced pattern:development-tools with running sudo zypper install pattern:meego-development-tools, but they forgot to tell you to download the headers. Try running sudo zypper install kernel-devel. Make sure your running kernel version (uname -a) matches the version you downloaded (run zypper info kernel-devel to locate the version of kernel-devel being installed). If it's not matching, you can conceivably force it to match using sudo zypper install --force kernel-devel.i586=<your exact version>. Before you go doing that, I would recommend you ensure you have the correct module code (see the above paragraph). Lastly, if you don't seem to have kernel-devel available for install try enabling more repositories in zypper. A quick way is to do sudo zypper mr -a -e to enable all repositories, I'll leave you to google for which ones you really need to have access to kernel-devel |
Toshiba NB510 - WiFi not working
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to use Meego 1.2 on my Toshiba NB510 and I’m experiencing the same issue as 'Thimoteus' described two posts above. Tried to install the Realtek 8188ce driver but the 'make' command is giving me the error: Code:
make –C /lib/modules/3.0.0-13.1-adaptation-pc/build M=/home/karlo/Downloads/rtl_92ce_92se_92de_8723ae_88ee_linux_mac80211_0012.0207_2013 modules Installed Meego V1.2 from scratch. Updated the system. The steps i already did, have been extracted from those three instructions on how to install Realtek Wifi cards on Meego: http://wiki.meego.com/Installation_of_MeeGo_on_notebook http://wiki.meego.com/Installing_Mee...igabyte_Q1000C http://www.meabi.com/meego-wirelesswifi-configuration/ http://slaine.org/_slaine/Meego_1.2_Wifi.html 1. lspci Code:
