dell mini with meego wireless not working
 

i installed meego in my dell inspiron mini 1018 but WLAN is not working with meego, it s fine with Windows 7 any clue ?

Alright, so it's using a realtek card. From what I can find, that card uses the RTL8188CE driver. Unfortunately, this is not included in any linux version, AFAIK. You can download it from the realtek website, but you'll have to build the driver yourself.

You'll need the basic development tools at least for that. Should be able to install them as so (Meego 1.1 apparently uses zypper for command line package management, while 1.0 used yum.)

Download the source code from the above link, extract, build, and install

Cross your fingers and reboot.

In case this helps the future traveller, here is the answer to Thimoteus. There are a few issues I found: You could be using the new (MeeGo v1.2) directions, which don't tell you to download the kernel headers. You could also be using the wrong module code, which might let you get successfully through make/make install if you're crafty but your wireless likely still won't work.

I recommend ensuring you have the correct module code first, it's much easier to do than debug the kernel headers. Just run lspci and look for "Network Controller". Locate the exact model number (e.g. RTL8188CE) and head over to the Realtek site (linked above) for the exact codebase you need. Run through the steps shown previously to get to make / make install.

If you've done the above and it's still not working, you could be missing the headers for your kernel. The directions for v1.2 MeeGo have replaced pattern:development-tools with running sudo zypper install pattern:meego-development-tools, but they forgot to tell you to download the headers. Try running sudo zypper install kernel-devel. Make sure your running kernel version (uname -a) matches the version you downloaded (run zypper info kernel-devel to locate the version of kernel-devel being installed). If it's not matching, you can conceivably force it to match using sudo zypper install --force kernel-devel.i586=<your exact version>. Before you go doing that, I would recommend you ensure you have the correct module code (see the above paragraph). Lastly, if you don't seem to have kernel-devel available for install try enabling more repositories in zypper. A quick way is to do sudo zypper mr -a -e to enable all repositories, I'll leave you to google for which ones you really need to have access to kernel-devel
