Dell Inspiron 8600 and Slack 9.1

I just got a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a 1.4 Pentium M processor and centrino. This is my first laptop. I intend to put Slack 9.1 on here, and have looked around at other threads looking for advice. I noticed that I'll probably need to download the Nvidia drivers from their site. Anyone have any other advice or recommendations before I do this? I went over to www.linux-laptops.net too and found some valuable information there.

Thanks for your help.
