Dell Inspiron 6000 and i915GM not working

Hello,

I'm going crazy trying to set up my new Inspiron with the i915GM card. It works just fine with the vesa driver at 1280x800, but it's way too slow to watch movies.

I'm trying to use the i810 driver and I compiled the kernel modules and everything and the module seems to recognise my card and bring the server up alright. The problem is that I can't see a thing (the screen is just blank).
If I use the Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT" I can get something on the screen but it's unusable (it looks like the wrong refresh rate). If I use the CRT/LCD flip fucntion key (Fn-F8) I can see the screen alright for a split second before it blanks again or goes funny.

I looked around the net for something similar but I haven't seen anyone complaining about a problem similar to mine (especially the Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT" that I need to get something).

Any help dearly wanted and needed. I'm thinking about ditching my SUSE 9.2 install and using Ubuntu because some reported it worked fine, but I doubt it: the live DVD won't display a thing :-(

Seems to be working now. I updated the DRI modules from http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/ and now it works like a charm :-)
I didn't know there were DRI modules somewhere apart from the ones in the kernel tree, I've wasted so much time!! :-(

I hope that helps someone else.
